Speed Trap

Thursday, April 26th, 2007

lake wyolaI almost blew by a speed trap this morning at the 20mph section near the state park of Lake Wyola. Knowing that the police love to sit there I am usually pretty good about slowing down until I can see if there is someone sitting there who would just love to put me out a hundred bucks. Today though, the lake was caped in a diaphanous fog with the morning diffused sunlight through it that was so beautiful, I completely forgot to slow down. Actually for one moment forgot entirely I was even driving; I could only suck in my breath and then sigh. Lucky for me I think the policeman may also have been stunned into awe by the water and sky. Now I am picturing the conversation that would have been.

Hello officer, beautiful morning. Yes I know I was doing 15 over the posted speed limit. I am usually way better about slowing down here, but I drive by the place every day and I have never seen it looking so gorgeous. I was paralyzed by exquisite scenery and couldn’t brake.
smile smile pray.

I’m sure this would work way better than the last time I was speeding “I didn’t realize I was coming up on a town and I was listening to Donna Summer’s I feel love”

Head’s up on a holiday tomorrow is Give Flowers To a Stranger Day

Travel Plans

waBefore it hits that point of it is far too beautiful here to leave I am heading to to central Washington to see Robin and the fam. If things work out the morels will be somewhere and most important I will find a big sack full of them. I will get to do yoga a bunch, although this time I am not so delusional & think I that I can do that with a five and three year old around. Most yoga poses look like superb jump on Christine material to Jordon and Maya. Entirely defeats the purpose to have a toddler flung up on your back in plank pose. Lucky now Ellensburg has a yoga studio and I am going to buddy up with that. Scott’s prolific art production will inspire me, as always, so I am going to draw, draw and draw some more. If I get bored I will take a bunch of photos. If I can get someone to model for me that would be super. Maybe Robin needs me to make new books which will end up in alchemy studios. D&M coffee, Sen, Ringer loop, the super view of the Mt. Stuart here I come. Just two weeks to wait.

How to have a perfect weekend

Monday, April 23rd, 2007

This is not required but if you start with two solid weeks of rain and snow this recipe will work as well as feeding starving folk.

Have weatherunderground tell you that Friday Saturday and Sunday are going to be progressively warmer starting at mid sixties and sunny.

Have a perfectly wonderful day at work which includes finishing a website, coming across live music outside on your way to lunch and having your student employee catch you up on internet cool for a few.
Meet your first person to meet through blogging. Apparently when you blog about why it could be cool to be someone for a day, it is in the realm of possibility that they will happen to be in the town you work on Friday, even if he lives on the other side of the country. Interesting to meet someone after reading their blog for a while. You get an idea about who they may be by the writing, but only a glimpse. He was fun to be around, interesting and comfortable to talk with.*

Go contra dancing. Get dipped (first time, ooo exciting and bonus it didn’t wrench my back out like I feared it would)

Have a chill morning on Saturday, hang out at the Country Store, go buy seed for the garden plant everything frost worthy and do yard work. Notice that JoeTAH get 7 times more work done than I in the same time. Joe is awesome.

Go contra dancing again. Yes, I am totally addicted. Sparse crowd but really great dancing. The band has a banjo; I like that.

Sunday sleep late, do a little more yard work, play scrabble at Jenny’s outside on the big rock, Alia stops by with seeds and we croon over the three garlic plants that are poking up in the garden. I watch the neighbors try to cut down a gargantuan dead oak tree. Which is successful but munched a corner of their shed. Ouch.

BBQ some chicken and asparagus and make my new favorite salad or maybe it is a chutney. Who cares what to call it; it is delicious. Here is the recipe
1 mango diced
1 avocado diced
couple splashes of lime juice
10-15 mint leaves chopped
fresh thyme

Yum

Perfect weekend.

* Look now I am stealing a common writing element from his blog, the asterisk footnote to not get off topic, but fill in some blanks. Maybe it rubbed off. Could be I got too comfortable since I apparently babbled on and stunned him a bit. woops. & um… I think it means twice as much as you.

Signs of Spring

Friday, April 20th, 2007

Salamander SignsA bunch of these hand made signs are popping up around the ponds and streams in my town. I just love the interpretive way a salamander is depicted. I think there are more and I will go on a mission to find them all this weekend.
The peepers are out now. I saw one on the road Tuesday night. Big warning for anyone who is driving around my town. That means watch out for me while I am swerving to avoid the frogs. I absolutely hate when I hit them especially if I can hear them pop. I will avoid it through extreme means. I probably look like I am driving completely inebriated on damp evenings from April through June. To make up for being a somewhat hazardous driver (to other drivers not the frogs) I am posting the best thing about peepers, what they sound like from my deck at night.
Since we had what feels like two months of rain there are now new streams running all over. My friend Carolyn is taking her kids on a waterfall tour so I made a google map with a few I really like. I like this new feature of google maybe I can mark all my mushroom hunting places for reference. Of course if I make that public everyone will beat me to the chanterelles and my cooking will suffer. That will never do.

Planning Board Conversation

Wednesday, April 18th, 2007

Here is a summary from our deliberations about how long shared driveways can be for the new common driveway bylaw we will bring to town meeting.
me: How about 1000 feet. This would match our back lot common driveway bylaw.
jenny: No way that is way too big, a 1000 foot driveway is really a road. I think it should be more like 500 feet.
dede: I don’t think 500 feet is enough what about 750
jenny: that is still way too long
heather maps out some lots to get an idea of how far is 500, 750 and 1000 feet from the road. I do some quick math of 3 acre lots with minimum frontage.
me: how about 648 feet? Aren’t you just so sick of round numbers for everything.
jenny: I like it they are all even numbers
trish: The also add up to 9, signifying the end of things completion and closure
me: plus if you spell them out it is F D H
jenny: like feminine deodorant
me: ugh no, that is fds

With that we had consensus and could adjourn only one hour late. I just love my town.
